connector for Claude

User guide for the GeneTrainer connector for Claude

Draft — to be validated by a DPO / legal counsel before publication (Projet — à valider par un DPO / juriste), for the parts that deal with data, consent and the club's role.

Version: 2026-10-01 (draft). Passages in square brackets […] must be completed. French version: user-guide.fr.md. Privacy policy: privacy-policy.en.md.

1. What the connector is for

The GeneTrainer connector links Claude (claude.ai, Claude Desktop, the Claude mobile app, Claude Code) to your GeneTrainer account. You ask a question in natural language ("Who is available on Saturday?"), Claude queries GeneTrainer on your behalf and answers from the data of your teams.

2. Before you start

  1. You are a member of the staff of a GeneTrainer team (staff, technical or management profile).
  2. You have already signed in to GeneTrainer (web or mobile) with your account: that first sign-in is what links your account to the connector.
  3. The club has switched sharing on for the team: a manager (Management profile) must have enabled "Sharing with AI assistants" (see section 9).
  4. You use Claude through a professional plan (Team or Enterprise). It is a condition of use, written in the club's sharing conditions ("required for each staff member who connects Claude"). The confirmation page does not ask you to attest it, and GeneTrainer cannot check your plan: it is your commitment and your club's. Individual plans (Free, Pro, Max) are not suitable for athletes' health data.
  5. For medical data only: a GeneTrainer permission on the team ("Medical" for injuries, "Medical notes" for notes, Read or Full level), the club's switch, and your medical consent on the attestation page.

3. Connecting

The labels of Claude's interface are those of Anthropic's documentation; they may vary from one version to another. The connector's address is https://mcp.genetrainer.com/mcp (with https, and no trailing slash).

3.1 In claude.ai, Claude Desktop and the mobile app

Team or Enterprise plan (the normal case)

  1. An Owner of your Claude organisation adds the connector for the whole organisation: Organization settings > Connectors > Add > Custom (choose Web if Claude asks for the type), enter the address above (name: GeneTrainer), leave the authentication settings at their defaults (Use Claude's published identity when it is offered), then Add.
  2. Each member connects with their own account: Customize > Connectors, find GeneTrainer (labelled Custom), click Connect.
  3. Sign in with your GeneTrainer credentials (the sign-in page is GeneTrainer's).
  4. Read and confirm the "Use of GeneTrainer data" page (section 3.3).
  5. At the first connection, an authorisation screen asks you to accept "Lire les données de vos équipes auxquelles vous avez accès dans GeneTrainer" (read the data of your teams that you can access in GeneTrainer): the only right requested is reading. Accept.
  6. Back in Claude, the connector shows as Connected.

Once the connector is in Claude's connectors directory [to be confirmed after submission]: Customize > Connectors > Discover, search for "GeneTrainer", then Connect to Claude. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner must first add it for the organisation; otherwise you can ask for it (Request).

3.2 In Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http genetrainer https://mcp.genetrainer.com/mcp
claude mcp list

In a Claude Code session, type /mcp, choose genetrainer, then authenticate: the browser opens on the GeneTrainer sign-in, then on the "Use of GeneTrainer data" page. Connect Claude Code with your organisation's account (Team or Enterprise), not a personal account. To remove the connector: claude mcp remove genetrainer.

3.3 The "Use of GeneTrainer data" page

This page is shown at every connection from Claude (first connection and reconnections), not during the silent renewal of your access. It is available in French, English or Italian (the language of your GeneTrainer profile, otherwise your browser's).

It says: "You are connecting Claude to your GeneTrainer account. Please read and confirm the following before continuing." Then, under "By continuing, I confirm that:":

You must tick "I have read and I confirm these statements." to continue. The page does not ask about your Claude plan, which is nevertheless required (section 2, point 4).

Medical consent. If you hold a medical right (the "Medical" or "Medical notes" permission) in at least one of your teams, the page also shows a box: "I allow Claude to read the medical data I have access to", with: "Optional. Leave this box unchecked and Claude will not read any medical data on your behalf."

Click "Accept and continue". If you did not expect this request, close the page: nothing will change. The page's link is single-use and valid for 15 minutes. This attestation does not transfer responsibility for the processing: the club remains responsible.

3.4 Checking that it works

In a conversation, switch the connector on (+ > Connectors, GeneTrainer's toggle), then ask: "Which teams can I query with GeneTrainer?" Claude uses the list_my_teams tool: it lists your teams and shows, for each, whether the club has switched sharing on.

3.5 Using the connector in a conversation

4. What you can ask

Claude chooses the tools itself: just ask your question. The tool names below are the ones you see appear in Claude.

4.1 Eight questions to start with

Question Tools usually used (Claude chooses itself) Categories of data needed
"Who is available on Saturday?" get_availability, get_calendar Availability, Organisation
"Who has a wellness alert this morning?" get_wellness_alerts Questions
"How has the midfielders' load changed over 4 weeks?" get_team_roster, query_metric Performance, Organisation
"Compare high-intensity distances in the last match." get_calendar, list_metrics, query_metric Performance, Organisation
"Who has lost more than 2 kg this month?" query_metric Performance
"Summarise Tuesday's session." get_calendar, get_session_details Organisation (and Questions, Performance for the session's RPE and GPS)
"Give me an update on X before the match." get_team_roster, get_athlete_overview Several, filtered field by field
"Who has played the most over the last 5 matches, and who started?" query_metric Performance

4.2 Examples by tool

Tool What it does Examples
list_my_teams Lists your teams (where you are staff) and the sharing state "Which teams can I query?"
get_team_roster Current roster, positions, position groups, training groups (and phone, e-mail if the club shares Contact details) "Who is in the squad?", "What are the training groups?"
list_metrics Catalogue of the team's metrics (questions, GPS, load, body, tests, strength, playing time) "What data can you analyse for my team?"
query_metric Queries one metric: latest value, summary, evolution, change, ranking, distribution, for the team, a position group, a training group or up to 30 athletes "Rank the athletes by minutes played over the last 5 matches", "Who gave the lowest answer to the sleep question this week?", "Evolution of the group's strength tonnage over 6 weeks"
get_wellness_alerts Wellness alerts for one day (or up to 14 days): those of the rules you are a recipient of, and colour-band alerts "Wellness alerts this week?"
get_calendar Sessions over a period: type, time, title, groups, participants (without staff's private notes) "What is on the calendar next week?", "When is the next match?"
get_session_details One session: content, participants, attendance, RPE, attached GPS "Detail Tuesday's session: who attended, what RPE?"
get_athlete_overview An update on one athlete: availability, latest wellness answers, 7- and 28-day load, weight, latest tests "Give me an update on [name]"
get_availability Availability status per athlete for a day: available, returning, unavailable (no diagnosis); for a day ahead, from the dates already recorded "How many unavailable on Friday?"
get_injury_details Injuries and medical notes of one athlete or of the team (three locks, section 5) "Which injuries are open and in what phase?", "Is there a recent medical note on [name]?"

Medical data and decisions. What get_injury_details and the other tools return is decision support, not medical advice. The connector returns data recorded in GeneTrainer; it does not diagnose or recommend a treatment. Claude, an AI assistant, summarises that data, and an answer can be incomplete or wrong (see section 4.3). Decisions about an athlete's health, such as diagnosis, treatment or return to play, remain with the club's qualified staff; the reference is the data in GeneTrainer, not Claude's summary of it.

4.3 For good answers

4.4 Why a figure can differ from a GeneTrainer screen

These gaps are intended: the connector follows what the screen shows, with the strictest choice for privacy.

5. What Claude cannot see

What stays out of reach Detail
Red list: never, whatever the setting Identity documents (including health card and European firearms card), weapons, social security number, postal address, the athlete's contacts (including their parents), menstrual-cycle question and tracking.
Not exported in this version Date of birth, sex, nationality, licence number, contract type, maximum heart rate.
Athletes' free text Questionnaire comments, "free text" questions, free-form injury reports, session completion notes.
Reserved for staff Questions filled in by staff, interviews, staff's private calendar notes.
People Former players, staff, athletes of other teams; teams where you are not a member of the staff.
Groups Training groups that are private to another user, archived, or "smart".
Categories the club has not ticked Contact details, medical by default, or anything the club has unticked.
Medical without the three locks No GeneTrainer permission, club's switch not ticked, or medical consent not given.

Labels written by staff (session titles, group names, question titles) are passed on as they are: avoid putting health information in them.

6. Limits

60 calls per minute and 2,000 per day per user; 10 seconds of computation per query; 30 athletes per list; 365 days at most (14 days for wellness alerts, 62 days for the calendar); 60 rows and 50 KB per answer (an answer that is too large is refused, never silently cut). At most 4 calls at once per person: Claude sometimes sends several together; the extra ones are refused for a few seconds (rate_limited) and Claude can retry them.

7. Troubleshooting

Error messages are written in English for Claude, which explains them to you in your language. Here is what they mean.

7.1 By error code

Access

Code What it means What to do
account_not_linked No GeneTrainer account is linked to this sign-in (or no token came with the call). Sign in to GeneTrainer once (web or mobile) with the same identifier as in Claude, then disconnect and reconnect the connector. If it persists, contact support.
terms_not_accepted The data use terms have not been accepted for this connection, or their text has changed. Disconnect then reconnect the connector in Claude and confirm the "Use of GeneTrainer data" page.
team_not_found "Team not found": the team does not exist, or you are not a member of its staff. The answer is the same in every case, on purpose. Ask Claude to list your teams and check the team you named. If you should have access, ask a team manager to check your profile.
connector_disabled_by_club The club has not switched on sharing with AI assistants for this team, or has not yet accepted the updated sharing conditions. Ask a team manager (Management profile) to switch it on, or to accept the updated conditions (section 9).
category_not_shared The club does not share with Claude the category of data this answer needs. A manager can tick the category in the same panel (section 9).
medical_permission_required Your GeneTrainer account does not hold, on this team, the permission required for this medical data. Ask a manager to grant you "Medical" (injuries) or "Medical notes" (notes), Read or Full level.
medical_consent_required You did not give the medical consent at your last connection. Disconnect and reconnect the connector, then tick "I allow Claude to read the medical data I have access to".
athlete_not_in_roster One or more athletes asked about are not in the team's current roster (former player, another team, wrong identifier). Ask Claude to read the roster again, then ask again.

Request

Code What it means What to do
unknown_metric The metric asked for does not exist for this team. Ask for the list of available metrics.
unsupported_analysis The metric does not accept this kind of analysis (for example a ranking on a multiple-choice question). Rephrase: latest value, evolution, distribution…
invalid_params A parameter is not valid (the message names the field): team to name when several are active, a list of more than 30 athletes, a badly written date, an answer that is too large… Be more specific or narrow the question (a shorter period or a smaller group).
period_out_of_range The period is longer than 365 days (14 days for wellness alerts, 62 days for the calendar). Choose a shorter period.
query_timeout The computation took more than 10 seconds and was stopped. Reduce the period or the group of athletes.

Service

Code What it means What to do
rate_limited Too many calls (60 per minute, 2,000 per day), more than 4 calls at once, service momentarily saturated, or counter unavailable. Wait for the time given in the message, then try again. A narrower question avoids bursts of calls.
internal_error Unexpected error at GeneTrainer. The message gives a reference. Try again. If it persists, contact support with the reference and the time.

7.2 Connection problems

What you see Likely cause What to do
Claude shows "Couldn't reach the MCP server" or "Authorization with the MCP server failed" Wrong address, or an interrupted connection Check that the address is exactly https://mcp.genetrainer.com/mcp, disconnect and reconnect; otherwise contact support with the time and the ofid_… reference visible in the address of Claude's error page (it expires quickly).
"Unexpected error while invoking tool" The connection is fine but a tool failed Try again; otherwise contact support with the tool name and the time.
"Link already used" or "Invalid link" page The attestation page's link is single-use and lasts 15 minutes Restart the connection from Claude.
"Account not found" page No GeneTrainer account is linked to this sign-in Sign in to GeneTrainer once, then restart the connection from Claude.
"Error" page Incident at GeneTrainer Restart the connection; otherwise contact support.
The connector is refused with a "service disabled" message (HTTP 503) GeneTrainer has suspended the connector (maintenance or incident) Try again later.
GeneTrainer does not appear in your list of connectors (Team or Enterprise) An Owner has not yet added it for the organisation Ask an Owner (section 3.1).
The sign-in page keeps coming back A connection that did not finish properly Disconnect the connector (section 10) and reconnect it.

8. Frequently asked questions

Can Claude change my GeneTrainer data? No. All tools are read-only.

Does GeneTrainer keep my questions and the answers? No: GeneTrainer does not receive your conversation and does not keep the data returned to Claude. It records an audit log for 12 months: who, when, which team, which athletes, which categories, and the parameters of the call chosen by Claude (team, metric, period…), without the data itself.

What happens to the data in Claude? It becomes part of your Claude account's conversation and depends on your plan and your organisation's settings (retention, conversation sharing). See the privacy policy, section 7.

Can an athlete use the connector? No: it is reserved for staff.

Can an athlete ask not to appear? In this version the connector cannot exclude one particular athlete. The club handles such a request another way (see the privacy policy, section 11).

9. For the club: switching sharing on or off

Sharing is off by default for every team. It is set team by team.

Where. Settings > General > Sharing with AI assistants. All the team's staff can read this panel; only the team's Management profile and GeneTrainer administrators can change it.

Switching on.

  1. Turn on "Allow this team's data to be shared with AI assistants".
  2. Under "Shared data", tick the categories the club agrees to share. Organisation is always included; the others are Contact details, Performance, Questions, Availability, Medical — injuries and Medical — notes. By default Performance, Questions and Availability are ticked; Contact details and the two medical categories are unticked.
  3. Read "Sharing conditions" (the version is shown): the club remains the data controller and GeneTrainer the processor, the data is sent to Anthropic through the Claude account of each staff member (including health data if the medical categories are ticked), a professional Claude plan (Team or Enterprise) is required for each staff member who connects Claude, each staff member confirms the data-use statements at every connection, every access is logged.
  4. Tick "I accept these conditions on behalf of the club" (asked at first activation, at reactivation and when the conditions change), then Save. Until a manager has accepted the updated conditions, the connector refuses the calls for the team (connector_disabled_by_club).

Switching off, or changing categories. Untick or turn off, then Save. The effect is immediate: rights and settings are read again at every call, without waiting for a token to expire. Turning sharing off and on again asks the club to accept the conditions again.

Medical data. The two medical categories are health data and are unticked by default. For a staff member to reach them, they also need: the "Medical" or "Medical notes" permission (Read or Full level) in GeneTrainer's permission editor, and their personal consent at each connection. Notes marked as restricted, or with no restriction setting, need the Full level of "Medical notes".

Follow-up. The panel shows the last change (date and author). Each change is kept in a history: it is the club's written instruction.

Before switching on. The legal kit given to clubs (legal-kit, in French) helps to inform athletes (and the parents of minors), to carry out the impact assessment and to frame the use of Claude. The medical categories should only be ticked after that assessment and after written confirmation from Anthropic that health data is covered by its contract.

10. Disconnecting

Your access (token) expires anyway: one hour for the access token, 30 days of inactivity for its renewal. The attestation records and the audit log are kept as described in the privacy policy, section 9.

11. Help and contact
